But things have changed for me, thankfully. I wrote more about this fostering experience on VetMed Connect right after posting these photos, but for now, here is a peek at our new guy. His name is Hammer, and he is 2 years old.

I am not sure why there were so many distractions pulling me in so many directions this week. Maybe because I wasn’t diligent in making my regular To Do list? Could it be that simple? Too many different things going on? Yeah probably.

How social media changed me

For a veterinary trade magazine article:

I’m looking for an real-life example from a veterinarian who had trouble tracking down the right microchip registry after scanning a lost/stray pet. This is less about scanning issues and more about figuring out how to contact the right registry (and, we hope, the right pet owner). The article is due tomorrow (T 3/2). Your microchipping stories needed

Here is my day in pictures.

Then they would break from zooming for a little love time.

Waiting their turn to be de-flea/tick 'ed, dewormed and new collars and muzzles.

This guy on the right really caught my eye - a blue fawn - but he was off to Canada.

The dogs will all be spayed/neutered, have their teeth cleaned, heartworm tested and vaccinated (if needed), then off to find their forever homes. Fostering is important for the transition from track to home life. They need to learn what it is like to live in a home: stairs, mirrors, windows, other pets, and so on. They have many great things to look forward to in their retirement years.

There are Greyhound rescue groups throughout the US and the world. Even if you can’t foster or adopt, there are ways to help. To find out more, visit Adopt-A-Greyhound. Here is a handy map to find a rescue group near you; in the US and worldwide.

I will be adding the photos, stories and interviews to my About.com Veterinary Medicine site over the course of the coming week. I was happy/amused to catch several dogs yawning this year. Just a little pet photography quirk I have. lol Sophie does this all of the time. I am convinced she thinks it is extra cute (which I probably encourage). Westminster – the week after

It was a long day of travel yesterday. We sat on the tarmac for a total of about 2 hours in 2 airports, in addition to the many hours in the air. A late plane and a  snowstorm in Denver meant that I finally got to get some ZZZs at about 4am EST. I was tired, but seeing the pets – especially Argos – being so excited upon my return perked me up. Sophie, Barnie and Greta are sort of familiar with the routine of someone leaving then coming back after a while. (Greta is totally attached to my son, my comings and goings are not as big of a deal to her.) I’ve never been “away” from Argos overnight since adopting him in December. He was so cute, bewildered, and thrilled at my return that I just had to laugh.

Today the trio of buddies – Barnie, Sophie and Argos – all happily settled back into the routine as I had my morning tea.
