A little too cozy
If you have been to this blog before, you have probably read about my pet’s sleeping arrangements. Pet bed “ownership” changes daily, but if the cats – Quincy or Barnie – are in a bed, then that is their bed for as long as they wish. Or is it?
Still some learning to do
Burro the foster Greyhound has been fairly oblivious to the cat-bed-ownership rules, even though things were clearly explained early on. So imagine Barnie’s surprise when Burro plopped down almost on top of him the other day.
The nerve!

Some time later…

Barnie: Then and Now
I am getting ready for the big PetFinder.com Adopt the Internet party happening tomorrow. I pre-blogged about this event on About.com and K9Cuisine, and now preparing posts for tomorrow, the big day celebrating 15 years and 17 million pet adoptions.
No surprise, I am writing about a few of my pets for the March 15 event. As I was going through photos, I found these of Barnie. I didn’t adopt him from a shelter or find him on PetFinder. It was about this time of year in 2009 that he appeared out of nowhere. He had apparently been using our barn as home base for who-knows-how-long.
Here is a look at Barnie, then and now
From his humble beginnings as a barn cat:

Then: Matted and messy, hair falling out.

Now: The good life - sunshine and a comfy bed.

Then: Adopt the kitteh, please!

Then: Sporting a serious hair cut
Barnie loves his housemates

Now: Barnie - friend to all.

Good to have friends to play with.

And friends to... surprise you.

The party is on!
More to come on About.com and K9Cuisine tomorrow!
Burro Learns About Sleeping Arrangements
Burro the foster Greyhound has been with us just over a week. Oh, the strides she has made!
This girl was afraid of her own shadow, one of those squat-and-pee types. Now she is bounding around, stealing toys and TV remotes, and giving Argos a little run for his money in the backyard.
She stands and waits to be petted, or wriggles in between Sophie and Argos – no more of that fearful squatting. Today she greeted me with a play bow! (giant step forward)
Despite these humongous positive strides, Burro still has a thing to learn about Sleeping Arrangements. Today’s lesson was a continuation of an earlier discussion with Quincy.

Barnie is not as much of a stickler as Quincy, but he does love a comfy bed.

The big picture…
Hmmm! This reminds me of Quincy.

Any comfy bed will do. Oh look! This one is heated, too.

Here We Go Again
We had a busy day today. We met someone new who needs to learn the ropes.
Barnie remembers a similar incident, and shares his perspective.

We love you, Barnie. ♥
Last year we fostered Hammer the Greyhound, who went on to find a perfect forever family (Hammer archive).
This post is a sneak peek at “Burro,” a young brindle female Greyhound we are fostering for our Greyhound adoption group. We just met her today. Love!
More details and story to come…
Ying and Yang
With tons of snow, but wind chills at -16F outside, Sophie has not been her usual Snow Loving Dog self.
She now sees why Barnie is so good at catching a sunbeam when he can…

The "original two," Sophie and Barnie soak up some rays.
The Comfort of a Good Friend
This may be a record for the longest between-updates span of time. Hmmm. A dubious honor. But! I have been busy.
I just got back from the most amazing NYC-Westminster trip ever. That in itself took time, plus the pre-trip prep and the post-trip rest.
Now I am back, refreshed and ready to go.
The pets had the family to take care of them, and they did a very admirable job. That said… the pets also looked out for each other. A definite benefit of having multiple pets.
Here is a look at friends Barnie and Quincy

Barnie grooms Quincy, who rarely takes the time for personal grooming.

While Quincy doesn't seem to care about personal grooming, he loves being groomed.

Quincy gets a little indignant at the cessation of grooming.

The next day, everything is back in order.

Quincy communicates his needs.

Friendship is give and take.
Friends… and Family
I have written about my friend Cindy, aka “Peach” before on this blog. Our big event is the Race for a Cure. We moved out to the east coast a bazillion years ago after vet school, she went to Massachusetts and I went to New Jersey. This was our first trip back.
We stayed with my sister. One full week. I hoped everything would go smoothly and the stress of travel (and very little sleep) would not wear us all out. You know… make things lopsided.
But no! It was seriously the Best. Trip. Ever. Laughs and good times.
Things fell into place. We met many people, attended several events, and reunited with old friends.
We even had front row seats to the Big Dog Show. Score!

Nice to sit down after being on our feet for hours.
Office Meetings
How you position yourself at office meetings says a lot.
Earlier….

Oh my. The sun really brings out the full hairy-ness of the dog bed. Someone needs to wash that thing!

I have been writing about pets and veterinary medicine on the
